Action Alert: Urge Congress to Oppose Severe Cuts to Science Funding

info_icon-60px.pngThe Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through September 30, 2011, includes significant cuts to science funding (see news article here). The CR is being debated on the U.S. House floor from February 15-17, 2011, and is scheduled for a vote on February 17, 2011. Please contact your Representative in Congress now and urge them to oppose the significant cuts to science funding for NIH and NSF included in H.R. 1. While the nation must address its debts and deficits, the President and Congress must agree on a long-term strategy for spending reductions that does not cut short the investments needed for our country to remain competitive in the next decade and beyond.

To send a brief message to your Representative, use the contact form on his or her website. You can access all Representatives’ sites at: http://www.house.gov/. We encourage you to also describe what federal funding for research means to your university and community, as well as training for the next generation of scientists.
