IOM to Convene First Meeting on Healthy People 2020
A committee of the Institute of Medicine is planning a series of public meetings to identify 12 indicators that will be used to measure the health of the nation during the next decade.
In its first of three meetings, scheduled for November 8, 2010, the Committee on the State of the USA Health Indicators will host a panel of experts to assist in gathering information that could be used in the development of the indicators. Recommendations from the committee will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for consideration in developing a national health agenda and the proposed report: Leading Health Indicators for Healthy People 2020.
The committee’s work is expected to build on the 1999 report: Leading Health Indicators for Healthy People 2010. Physical activity, substance abuse, mental health and access to health care are among indicators identified in the 2010 report.
The meeting is scheduled for 10AM. at The Melrose Hotel, 2430 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.
