NSF SBE Directorate Seeks Input on Research Agenda for Next Decade
In a “Dear Colleague” letter to the social, behavioral, and economic sciences community, NSF Assistant Director Myron Gutmann invites the scientific community to “think boldly about future promises” for our sciences and to submit white papers that will address next-generation research challenges.
Dr. Gutmann, who heads the Directorate for the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences, stated that the white papers are one part of a broader process that will help the SBE Directorate develop its research plans as it “look[s] forward 10 or even 20 years.” White papers should address challenge questions that are both foundational and transformative and may be submitted by individuals or groups. The white papers are limited in length to 2,000 words and must be submitted by September 30, 2010.
We encourage FABBS member societies and their members to think creatively about research challenges that the NSF SBE should pursue over the coming decade and to assist the Directorate by responding to this invitation for input into the process.
