Work Continues on NAS “Framework” Report
Following the submission of the behavioral and social sciences community response to the NAS draft framework for K-12 science education, a small group of behavioral and social sciences representatives had a chance to meet with NAS Board of Education staff, the Committee Chair, as well as representatives from the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education.
This was an excellent opportunity to share perspectives and for the community to provide more details regarding the concerns raised in our collective response to the draft report. The Committee is scheduled to meet again on September 1-2, 2010, in Irvine, CA. At this time, they will take up the issue of addressing the many responses they have received from the science and education communities, including ours.
Although the public comment period for responding to the draft is now closed, we hope you will continue to speak to your colleagues about the importance of including the behavioral and social sciences in the new science education framework that will be released by the NAS. The final report is scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2011.
